Full Time Nurse Practitioner

We are growing our team to enhance the care at Marianhill in response to the new Fixing Long-Term Care Act.  Therefore, we require more staff. As a result, we are recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner.

Nurse Practitioner

Marianhill’s Nurse Practitioner provides direct comprehensive care to Residents with specialized and complex needs based on advanced clinical knowledge and decision-making skills in assessment, diagnosis, and health care management. The Nurse Practitioner practice is an interdependent practice in which the Nurses Practitioner works independently by the authority given to perform additional controlled acts as outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario’s Standards of Practice for Registered Nurse in the Extended Class, collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team and in a practice model such as the Nurse Practitioner/Family Physician collaborative model.  Such duties are performed in accordance with Marianhill’s Mission Statement, established policies and procedures and current legislation and in a manner which respects the uniqueness, dignity, worth, self-respect, self-determination and autonomy of the client and promotes maximum independence.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved post-secondary nursing education program with a master’s degree in nursing
  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner Specialist program (NP-PHC) and current active registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Nurse Practitioner with a focus in geriatric care
  • Five years clinical experience preferred
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Demonstrated competence in leadership, interpersonal relations, problem solving, decision-making, teaching, and communication
  • Ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role
  • Strong working knowledge of computer applications such as MS Word and Outlook
  • Experience using electronic medical records systems
  • Excellent attendance is required
  • Oral and written proficiency in English is required

Skills

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families and residents
  • Diagnose, manage, and counsel residents and/or the families on health-related problems or complex chronic illness
  • Complete advanced and comprehensive person-centered health assessments to meet resident needs
  • Order and interpret resident diagnostics, prescribe medications, and treat disease, disorders and injuries. Make referrals as necessary for specialized consults
  • Be a clinical resource and leader of ongoing professional development and the delivery of excellence in clinical practice. Engage in evidence based clinical research
  • Collaboration and consultation with the Medical Director, physicians, the Director of Care, nursing staff, management, and external resources regarding best care practices for care plans of residents
  • Practices palliative care from a perspective that is based on resident centered principles of choice, self-determination, privacy, dignity and self-worth, autonomy and independent self-expression, freedom and stimulation and religious preferences.
  • Problem solves, exercises sound and ethical judgment and recognize areas of knowledge and skill limitations

Wage: Currently under review

Hours: Bi-weekly 75 hours – Monday to Friday

Please note proof as per Marianhill policy of required vaccinations, including but not limited to influenza, etc., is required as well as proof of a 2-Step Mantoux TB Skin Test dated within the last year with a current updated 1-Step. You will be required to provide an original, clear vulnerable sector criminal record check dated within the last 6 months and be able to sign a declaration at time of hire. Education certificate, diploma or otherwise must be provided to the Employer and you must participate in the Annual Influenza Program and N95 Mask Fit Testing Program as applicable.
